2014 Vans Custom Culture Partners
truth® is thrilled to congratulate Sandy High School in Sandy, Oregon on their victory in the truth® Custom Culture skateboard deck competition! truth® challenged the 50 semi-finalist schools to customize a skateboard deck with a design inspired by their reaction to the following fact:

In 2006, a judge ruled that Big Tobacco had been engaged in a 50-year-long scheme to deceive the public about the dangers of smoking.

Sandy High School crushed it, and wins a trip for 4 to NYC plus $10,000 for their art program. The competition was intense -- of the 50 eligible schools, 42 submitted truly amazing designs.

This is truth’s second year participating in the Custom Culture challenge with Vans. The whole team is genuinely grateful for (and humbled by!) the A-game talent and enthusiasm displayed by everyone. We’re pumped for another fierce competition in 2015!

About truth®
truth® is a dependable source of real facts and information about the tobacco industry and its products. The minute we lose that quality and start bending and manipulating facts to our gain, then we’re no better than the tobacco industry. We may have some fun with it, but we don’t tell anyone what to do with the information. You’re smart enough to make your own decisions about smoking: we just want to make sure you’re armed with all the right facts before you do.
Vans is continually dedicated to promoting creative self-expression among students. For the 2014 Custom Culture competition, we’re incredibly excited to welcome back, for the third year, a special partnership with US based shoe retailer, Journeys, to present the Local Attitude award. This award will highlight one of the final five schools that creates the most compelling Local Flavor theme shoes with a $10,000 donation to that school's art program. This award will be presented to one of the final five schools at the final event in New York City!
